Artist Biography
Ayanda Mbanjwa is an Afro Vibrant Eclectic artist whose creative journey began in early childhood, where colouring and drawing quickly became her natural language of expression. By primary school, her talent was unmistakable—she was not only recognised through frequent top placements in art competitions, but also through her early commissions, drawing popular characters such as Dragon Ball Z and Pokémon for her peers. Art, even then, was both instinctive and purposeful.
During high school, her practice began to deepen as she was introduced to a range of artistic movements and styles, sparking a period of exploration and evolution. This curiosity followed her into her university years, where moments of uncertainty and self-questioning shaped her understanding of what it truly meant to be an artist. Navigating the complexities of identity, creativity, and the professional art world ultimately became a catalyst for growth.
A pivotal turning point came when she began selling art for a well-established gallery—an experience that reignited her connection to painting and affirmed her artistic direction. From that moment, her work became increasingly intuitive and emotionally driven. Each piece emerges from the intersection of heart, imagination, and surrender to the process.
Ayanda approaches the canvas without fixed expectations, allowing the work to reveal itself organically. The act of painting is a dialogue rather than a plan, where discovery unfolds in real time. This intuitive practice has clarified her path and solidified her commitment to a life shaped by creation.
This is where she stands now—fully present, guided by instinct, and devoted to the language of paint
